History
Before Design Team, it was Rube Goldberg. Ever since the 1960s, Rube Goldberg was a part of UT Engineering as a fun way for student organizations to build something technically challenging, but also creative. The Engineering Honor Society at UT, Theta Tau, hosted competitions within UT for Rube Goldberg. Organizations such as the AIAA (American Institute of Aeronautics and Astronautics), ASME, members of Theta Tau themselves, and more made Rube Goldberg machines to compete between themselves. Up until 2018, UT ASME's technical branch exclusively built Rube Goldberg machines to augment members' skills in power tools and on-the-fly creativity to compete in both Theta Tau's competitions and national Rube Goldberg competitions. Above are some pictorial examples of what previous years have accomplished, and below are video and web references as to the history of Rube Goldberg at UT Austin.
